Back Again

Hey all,
Firstly I have to apologise for my absence, I really needed to take some timeout due to a personal family crisis, and in turn this affected my need to want to draw or create any art at all. I am not sure why it affected me like this as I am the sort of person who needs to keep my mind occupied and work through it, but not this time. I think I had to sit back and reflect on things in my life, thinking about what really matters to me and in a round about way I may have sorted that out. My art is very important to me as it is a passion, but I so want to go in a different direction and and follow that through, but I need to find the time to make that happen, without totally giving up on the pet portrait/commission side of things. This is my plan and aim for the winter going into the new year, as I fear if I don't make some of these changes soon I will walk away from it all together.......its like life in general, it all comes down to getting the balance right, so one can grow and be happy.
This week I started back on my commissions, because with this timeout I have fallen behind, and once I have agreed to do the work, I must finish it, so I will be putting a few updates later on.
My other news for this week is about Google Page Creator and Google Sites. In a previous post I mentioned that I had migrated my site to GPC, only to find out that Google will be closing this down later on in the year, and all GPC sites will be migrated to Google Sites. I do belong to the discussion group for both of these, and there are alot of GPC users are just not happy with this change, me included, but saying that I thought I moved my GPC to Sites anyway, 1/ because I knew it was going to happen 2/ I wanted to do it myself and 3/ I just don't have the patience to hunt around for another free host provider. The main moan about Sites is that is wiki software, originally called Jotspot that Google bought up sometime ago and are now developing into a usable program, which I think it is meant to incorporate elements from GPC combined with newer elements to create a user friendly interface. I found it a little difficult to use at first, but once I understood the basics, it came easy, and for a non techie person like me that's great. I have also incorporated Picasa web albums to use as my galleries instead of loading the images directly onto the pages, which is far more nicer, but even so I am still tweaking it and adding in stuff, but if fancy a look here is the link...http://www.artwithapencil.co.uk......feel free to tell me what you think of it so far,or use the comments facility on site.

The site doesn't come up when I click the link - there's a message which says something about overload........

Can you make these sites public? I thought they were secure sites and therefore only accessible by designated people.

Hi Katherine,
Thanks for your comment.Oh no that again....well to cut a long story short, I moved my site from Sitekreator to Googlepages, as I had just purchased my domain and was able to redirect it there without any problems. After doing this I found out that GPC are closing and Google will be moving all GPC users over to sites, which in turn has created a bit of mighty hoohah in the discussion groups, mainly because Sites is based on wiki software, and still limited in what you can do with it.I chose not to wait and migrated it myself, but not without trial and error. Like all new things I imagine google will develop it, and you can use it within google apps, and redirect your domain name as long as you have access to the dns/cname records in your control panel at your provider.
I did the test link a few moments ago and it was working, but methinks it is buggy. The site can be made public if you tick that option in the settings page. Sorry if it sounds all a bit confusing, but I hope my answer helps.
