Hi all,
Ok I am feeling a little bit guilty because I have not been the net much, actually hardly at all this last week, and the reason for this is on the left.....my very first rock paintings. I am obsessed and it has been so relaxing much fun doing these, that I surprised myself. Yesterday I was up at 4.00 am and had created three by about 7.00, and the dreaded acrylic paint is taking over my work space...eeeekkk I am being invaded by tubes and pots, don't think my pencil collection is too impressed lol. The Internet has been wonderful source of information and I have come across many types of rock painting, but I did not want to get into the animal/realistic side of it with too much intent, that I will keep for my pencils, so aimed for lots of colours and patterns. My mandalas naturally crept in here as well, lots of symbols and I try to follow the natural curve and shape of the rock imbuing each one with a sense of its own identity. Another thing I learnt is that I like to be able to see the natural rock, not cover the whole thing with paint, something I did with my very first one. Looking at them I want to pick and handle them, they are very touchable and malleable, so different from a CP drawing. I have lots of other ideas too, like trying to make a few necklaces with stones that are quite small and have a natural hole in them caused by the elements...they are around, but quite difficult to find, but saving that perhaps I will consider drilling a few. I think this new passion will stay with me, and it seems that I am going to have organise my week a little better, so that I am giving equal amounts of time to each art form. In the photo there are some that are finished and have been varnished, which look great brings out the colours, some as a wip, some are double sided and some rocks with just a white outline draft.
I also came across a yahoo rock painting group, so much talent and great art...here is the link Yahoo Rock Painting Group.
Wow, Vic, when you find a passion, you really go with it - good for you and love what you have done. The jewellery idea sounds fascinating and look forward to seeing more of what you create :)
ReplyDeleteAren't they fun!! I love the freedom you can get painting on rocks trying new styles and designs!
ReplyDeleteI love these, they are gorgeous, well done. Funny you should do this. I live on the South Coast of the UK, and my house is full of rocks and pebbles, I often think of painting patterns on them. I am now inspired to have a go..

ReplyDeleteHi Gail, yep I think one can get seriously creative with something like this....I know I have.
Go for it Lorrie, methinks doing this will suit your style of art very well....cant wait to see what you come up with.
Thanks Kari, glad you like.
ReplyDeleteHi Vic. Wow, these rocks are gorgeous! You go girl!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vic
ReplyDeleteAs it happens, my hubby thinks so too. This weekend we were at the beach, and while I took photos, Luke and Orla collected rocks for me. I have a whole bucket to wash and shall get started next weekend as I have some good ideas. If they come out well, this is something I can add to my shop. Thanks for the inspiration.
I am also working on some embroidered textile art which will be applied to canvas. I have kept this new project pretty much secret till now..
Take care hun, and thanks for the friend add *smooch*
