My first Rock Paintings.

Hi all,
Ok I am feeling a little bit guilty because I have not been the net much, actually hardly at all this last week, and the reason for this is on the left.....my very first rock paintings. I am obsessed and it has been so relaxing much fun doing these, that I surprised myself. Yesterday I was up at 4.00 am and had created three by about 7.00, and the dreaded acrylic paint is taking over my work space...eeeekkk I am being invaded by tubes and pots, don't think my pencil collection is too impressed lol. The Internet has been wonderful source of information and I have come across many types of rock painting, but I did not want to get into the animal/realistic side of it with too much intent, that I will keep for my pencils, so aimed for lots of colours and patterns. My mandalas naturally crept in here as well, lots of symbols and I try to follow the natural curve and shape of the rock imbuing each one with a sense of its own identity. Another thing I learnt is that I like to be able to see the natural rock, not cover the whole thing with paint, something I did with my very first one. Looking at them I want to pick and handle them, they are very touchable and malleable, so different from a CP drawing. I have lots of other ideas too, like trying to make a few necklaces with stones that are quite small and have a natural hole in them caused by the elements...they are around, but quite difficult to find, but saving that perhaps I will consider drilling a few. I think this new passion will stay with me, and it seems that I am going to have organise my week a little better, so that I am giving equal amounts of time to each art form. In the photo there are some that are finished and have been varnished, which look great brings out the colours, some as a wip, some are double sided and some rocks with just a white outline draft.
I also came across a yahoo rock painting group, so much talent and great art...here is the link Yahoo Rock Painting Group.

Rocks and Paints

Hi all,
Got to own up to being really naughty over the Easter Weekend, the sun shone and I spent alot of time outside, visited the pub with the woofers and just generally lazed around...hence no work or updates ! At the same time as all this, I had an epiphany about paint, and just to explain that, I am not a painter...I have tried all of them and with no success, hence realizing that I am a drawer and lover of Pencils ! Whilst surfing around the net, I came across Rock Art, and wow I was impressed with what can be achieved, so I thought I would try my hand at this. What really appealed to me is that you can be as realistic or not as you please, one can get real creative, using the rocks shapes and contours to create animals, or to do fun funky designs....much more appealing to me than working on canvas with paint. Some of the sites I came across, are listed here, so go check them out, you wont be disappointed !
Lin Wellford
Ernestina Gallina
SuzyBug
PetaRock

As this new hobby has kicked in and I need some time to really get to grips with style and technique, I find myself needing to organise my days/weeks abit more effeciently,so methinks I will be making up some kind of timetable lol !
Back with the pencils to day and my rottie, plus I have a few more ACEOS on the go too....phew it is only 7.15 uk time and I have only had 1 cup of tea!

Happy Easter

Hi all,
Here is the latest Rottie update, she is beginning to take shape now and I am so enjoying doing this piece. I am aiming to get alot more done on her over this Bank Holiday weekend, in between putting my bedroom back together again, catching up on the ironing and designing a few new Mandalas....hopefully in about the year 2011 I will be back to normal !
The colours for the body are still the same, just building and layering as I go, and I am almost ready to choose the colours for the collar, I will list these too.

My Passion award needs to be passed on to five more bloggers, and I will have a think about these over the next day or so.

Lastly but not least I would like to wish all my readers/followers/random visitors a very Happy Easter, whatever you are doing may it be a Blessed one.

Another Award

Hi all,
I have been given another award by Kari Ann, which you can see to the left, my thanks to her I am well chuffed to of received it and will add it to the rest in nav bar.
The Rottie drawing is coming along well and I will have an update tomorrow, should of been today but I have had carpet fitters in and out, and all sorts of other shenanigans going on, so after stuffing my face with a Mackies I am off to put my feet for the rest of the evening. I know it may seem slow going, coloured pencils are anyway, but I tend to work on a few pieces at any one time, and this week along with the rottie I have been designing more mandalas and ACEOS. Tomorrow is busy too as I am getting my hair cut in the morning and have physio for my ankle in the afternoon, which I hate to say does not seem to be helping at all, except cauisng me pain. After all that off to do the weekly shop and to pick up a new Gazebo, and I am so hoping that Easter weekend will be quiet and I can have some serious art time.

Rottie Update.

Hi all,
I have knuckled down to this drawing today and got quite a bit done, although not as much as I would of liked, because yesterday I spent most of my time in the garden catching some early spring sun ! This is going really well, and I think more so because I have really wanted to draw this dog for a long time now, she is such a looker and I am going to give myself a pat on the back for getting a good picture of her. Mostly black or white dogs are never easy to do, there are so many shades and shadows in each, it is never a pure colour, but methinks that black is probably slightly harder to do. I tend to see them as either with alot of brown/chocolate tones or blue/slate grey tones and this one is of the latter. The colours I used for the eyes are Prismas in yellow ochre, golden rod, burnt ochre and pumpkin orange the really darks are burnt umber and sepia. I covered the head with a layer of Derwents blue grey working up the values layer by layer and then stated to apply some Derwent Coloursoft black, with more colours being added as needed.

My thanks also to Jean Grant who came up with the wonderful idea of calling my hand designs...Handtangles...after Zentangles, I certainly would of never thought of that name and I shall list them as that in my Zazzle gallery....thankyou Jean.
